Lite grann om mig själv...

Skaffade min första, och enda långhårscollie 1976, en fodertik vid namn Enny, sedermera Colgolds Enny. Jag var i början av tonåren och influerad av Lasssiefilmerna som flitigt visades under 70-talet. Att Collien , tyvärr, på den tiden, hade rykte om sig att vara "extremt nervig" i spåren av Lassiehysterin var inget som gällde min tik Enny, hon var istället en mycket stabil och klok hund som fick mig att inse vilken underbar ras Collien är.

Åren gick, till största delen hundlösa, och mestadels utomlands. Men så, vid slutet av 90-talet, började tankar ta form kring Collies, igen, men den här gången var det korthåren som väckte mitt intresse. Så året 2001 , införskaffade jag mitt första korthår ifrån kennel Early Mornings, snabbt följt av ytterligare en hund, ifrån kennel Oneway's. I och med dessa hundar, kom jag att inse, att Korthårscollien var rasen för mig; en hund med en; stor positiv personlighet med mycket positivt tänkande  och med massor av arbetsvilja.

Arbetsglädjen, och viljan att samarbeta samt den mentala stabiliteten tillsammans med en vacker exteriör är för mig grundtanken i min uppfödning. Där också friskhet och sundhet självklart måste ingå. Dessa är de grundegenskaper som de hundar jag kommer att använda i min avel ska besitta, och förhoppningsvis, kommer att nedärva till sin avkomma, dvs. kommande Astolat -hundar.

Namnet Astolat...

Namnet Astolat kommer ifrån legenden om Kung Arthur. En Brittisk medeltida berättelse om Kung Arthur och Riddarna kring Runda Bordet.  Berättelsen härstammar förmodligen från 400-talet och Arthur var nog egentligen en krigare som försvarade sitt folk mot inkräktare. Eller om man ska gå ett steg  ytterligare, så har kanske Arthur -legenderna från allra första  början,  sitt ursprung, i en slags personifiering av en mäktig Keltisk gud.
I vilket fall som helst, fick legenden om Arthur en renässans under medeltiden, genom författaren Geoffrey av Monmouth, som gjorde berättelsen känd för resten av europa. Arthur blev en romantisk kung omgiven av riddare i rustningar

I berättelsen förekommer  Elaine of Astolat, dotter till Kungen av Astolat. Hon  var olyckligt kär i en av Kung Arthurs närmaste män, Sir Lancelot, som i sin tur var förälskad i Arthurs fru, Guinevere.  Eftersom Elaines kärlek till Lancelot förblev obesvarad dog hon, enligt sägen ,av brustet hjärta, och flöt iväg i en båt ,på floden Themsen och hittades vid slottet Camelot.

Denna historia kanske inte verkar speciellt smickrande för att få symbolisera ett kennelnamn. Men, enligt en annan saga, skriven av en annan dåtida författare, födde hon istället Lancelots son, Galahad, och det är denna berättelse som får stå som symbol för mitt kennelnamn, Astolat

About myself...

Got my first , and only rough  Collie in 1976, a co-owned bitch with the name Enny, or later on, Colgolds Enny. I was in my early teens and influenced by the Lassiemovies that was shown frequently in the seventies. The fact that the collie at that time , was known as being  extremely nervy  during the after effects of the Lassie hysteria was nothing  that was due to my Enny, she was instead a very  stabile and wise dog that made me realize what  a wonderful breed the Collie was.
The year passed by, mainly without any dogs, and mostly abroad. And then, by the end of the nineties , thoughts  about the collie took place again, but this time it was the smooth collie that woke my interest . So, year 2001, I got my first smooth, from kennel Early Mornings , shortly followed by another one from Oneway’s kennel. With those dogs, I realized, that the smooth collie was “my” breed; a dog with a; great positive personality and thinking, and lots of workingability .

The pleasure and enthusiasm  in working ,and also the ability to co-operate together with  the  mental stability and beautiful  exterior are for me the basic thoughts  in my  reproduction. But, of course, also healthiness and soundness must be included. Those are the  fundamental qualities the dogs that I will use in my breeding must posess, and hopefully will those qualities be passed  over to their offspring, future Astolat dogs.

The name Astolat..

The name Astolat comes from the legend  about King Arthur. A  british medevial  story  about King Arthur and the Knights of The Round Table. The story presumably descends from the 5 th. centuries  and Arthur was  probably actually a warrior who  defended his people from intruders. Or, if one should go more further, so has  maybe,  the Arthurian- legends  its origin in some kind of personification of a powerful  Celt God.
Anyhow,  the legend about  Arthur, got a renascence during the Middle Ages , through the author Geoffrey of Monmouth, who made the story famous to the rest of Europe. Arthur became a romantic  king surrounded by knights in armours.

In the story, occurs Elaine of Astolat, daughter to King of Astolat, unhappily in love with sir Lancelot, one of Arthurs nearest men, who, as in turn, were  in love  with Arthur’s wife, Guinevere. Since Elaine’s love for Lancelot, remained  unresponded, she died, accordingly to the story, of a broken heart and float away in a boat on the Thames river and was found nearby the Castle of Camelot 

This story now, might not seems, very flattering to symbolize the name of a kennel, but, according  to a different story, written by another then author, Elaine give birth to Lancelot’s son Galahad, and it is this story that will represent my kennel name, Astolat
